Benefits of a Healthy Diet

There is a lot of talk surrounding having a healthy diet. While there are diet crazes galore, the general consensus among the medical community is simply this: eat real whole foods and avoid processed foods as much as you can. From a plethora of alkalizing fresh fruits and vegetables to whole grains, healthy fats, and lean proteins, eating healthy is all about balance. However, what exactly can eating healthy do for you?

  1. Lose weight. If you’ve been consuming the standard American diet (with an acronym of SAD for good reason), you may be holding on to a few extra pounds. By eating real, unprocessed, healthy foods at the proper daily caloric intake, you can shed those pounds and rest easily at a weight that is healthy for your body, reducing your risk of diabetes and heart issues, all while increasing your ability to enjoy various activities. A diet rich in alkaline foods has also been shown to have a positive affect on weight management.

  2. Keep your body in tip-top shape. One of the markers of a healthy diet is consuming all of the vitamins, minerals, fats, and other nutrients that your body needs to function best. By doing this, you reduce your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and even prevent cancer.

  3. Keep your mind sharp. When your body gets everything it needs from food naturally (as it’s meant to), your brain has all of the essential nutrients it needs to function at its highest level. There’s a reason a healthy meal gives you energy and helps you focus: you’re giving your brain the fuel it needs to thrive. For example foods high in omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon can provide your body with brain healthy DHA.

A balanced, inclusive diet is essential for ensuring that you feel your best, your body is maintained, and you’re protected from diseases and health issues. Remember, a healthy diet, although conducive to weight loss, has nothing to do with your waistline, yet it has everything to do with how you feel every day.
