Spinach - The Alkaline Food Powerhouse!

There are a lot of fantastic foods on the approved alkaline foods list, from leafy greens to healthy fats and numerous fruits. However, when it comes to the most alkaline foods, spinach consistently tops the list.

A fantastic addition to any diet, spinach is not only alkaline during digestion, but the natural, incredibly strong levels of chlorophyll act as an alkaliser as well, helping to bring your body back into the optimal 7.4 range. While alkaline levels are incredibly important, they aren’t everything, even in an alkaline diet. And the fact that spinach, and its benefits, extend far past its pH balance, is why it’s at the top of our list.

This dark, leafy green is packed full of nutrients, including vitamin K, A, C, B1, B2, B3, B6, and E. In addition to all of this, it contains a variety of minerals that are essential when following the alkaline diet, including manganese, magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, and folate. It’s also surprisingly high in protein and calcium when compared to other vegetables, and as the highest sources of protein are rather acidic (i.e., meat, poultry, and most fish), this is most certainly a plus.

Spinach is easy to incorporate into any number of meals and dishes. It works well in fresh juices and smoothies, and is a great addition to any salad. In lieu of lettuce, add spinach on your wraps, or steam it in large quantities as a primary side for your dinner. The possibilities, and the benefits, of this incredible food are endless!
